Unemployment rates are the highest they have been in years in Australia as a result of COVID-19. This huge loss of jobs has occurred across multiple industries and has changed the future of job demands in the country. Although this crisis has left many people seeking work, there is now an opportunity to gain new skills and try something new and fulfilling.
It is the perfect time to explore opportunities to transfer your existing skills and experience into a new career and industry, and discover a new passion.
The Federal Government announced a new initiative, JobTrainer on the 15th July 2020. The JobTrainer skills package will create 340,700 places nationwide, giving job seekers the opportunity to re-skill or up-skill in growing industries.
Apprentices and Trainees will also have more incentive with the Government providing an extra $1.5 billion, to help keep them training while working in a job.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said, “JobTrainer will ensure more Australians have the chance to re-skill or up-skill to fill the jobs on the other side of the crisis.”
“The jobs and skills we’ll need as we come out of the crisis are not likely to be the same as those that were lost.”
The Government states areas such as Healthcare, Social Assistance (particularly in children, elderly and community services) and, retail and wholesale trade will be in the highest demand after the economy recovers from the crisis.
