The Infection Control Skill Set has been developed in response to COVID 19, to up-skill your Employees in the Food Handling Industry. This skill set has been designed to provide your Employees with the skills and knowledge to follow basic Infection Prevention and Control Policies and Procedures, to manage the risk of infection posed by COVID 19 in the Workplace.


This Skill Set is funded for Eligible Students.


7 hours of virtual online training program plus work place based projects. The Work Placement task will be completed in your workplace.  

What You Will Learn:

  • Hand hygiene
  • Key modes of disease transmission
  • Breaking the chain of infection
  • PPE selection
  • Respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette
  • Distancing including: Social distancing
  • Surface and environmental cleaning
  • Waste disposal
  • Identification of hazards and risks controls

Unit of Competency

HLTINFCOV001 - Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures

A set of skills to follow organisational infection prevention and control policies and procedures, including implementing standard and transmission-based precautions and responding to infection risks in Organisations that include Food Handling in their operations.

It includes information on how to:

  • Follow standard and additional precautions for infection prevention and control
  • Identify infection hazards and assess risks
  • Follow procedures for managing risks associated with specific hazards

This Unit acknowledges the importance of complying with an effective infection control strategy that ensures the safety of the Client (or end-user of health-related products/services), maintains personal protection and prevents the transmission of infections from person to person. The skills in this Unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory Legislation, Australian/New Zealand Standards and Industry Codes of Practice.

This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government Funding. TMG College Australia also encourages individuals with disabilities to access training subsidised through the Skills First Program. People with disabilities are encouraged to apply for this training.


Assessment is broken into 4 components:

  • Written Questions
  • Project Work/Case Study
  • Supervisor Report
  • Workplace Based Task/Observation

Skill Set Eligibility Requirements

  • You are currently employed in Victoria in a customer-facing role within the Food Handling Industry.
  • You have not previously completed an Infection Control Skill Set.
  • You are a customer-facing worker who is eligible to work or volunteer in Australia, irrespective of your citizenship or residency status.
